COURSES

SDC 2010 takes cyclists on their choice of three different courses up and down the hills and the coast of North County San Diego.

START/FINISH - All courses start and finish at MiraCosta College (MCC) in Cardiff-by-the- Sea (Encinitas).

COURSES LENGTH RATING
The Del Dios (Blue) Course 37 Miles Moderate w/hills
The Del Sur (Green) Course 66 Miles Moderate/Difficult
The Dos Picos (Purple) Course 103 Miles Challenging

The DEL DIOS (BLUE) Course

A 37 MILE loop through Olivenhain, La Costa, Elfin Forest, Del Dios highway around Lake Hodges, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach and back up the coast to MCC. SAG at 16 miles and at the FINISH. Doable for most cyclists and very scenic. For full description, click on Del Dios in table above.

The DEL SUR (GREEN) Course

A 66 MILE ride that follows the BLUE course around Lake Hodges, but then heads east up the new roads to Poway and then back west down the 56 Bike Trail back to the coast. The Del Sur course offers several interesting climbs and beautiful vistas on the way to Poway. Aid is at 16, 29, 42, 54 miles and the FINISH. For the more experienced cyclist, but doable. For full description, click on Del Sur in table above.

The DOS PICOS (PURPLE) Course

THE San Diego Century is a 103 MILE ride that follows the BLUE course and then the GREEN course up to Poway, and then takes a turn east and up. Riders climb up to Ramona passing the highest point on the course - “Dos Picos” peak (1855’ elevation). 2010 will bring the first course change in four years: after turning right at CA-67 and Dye Rd. in Ramona (at 57 miles) and going through the country to the St. Mary’s SAG (61 miles), the course will reverse and go back to CA-67 & Dye the way that it came. This alternative is safer and is the same distance. After leaving Ramona, riders descend Scripps Poway Parkway for the final 30 miles downhill to MCC. The Dos Picos course is not for the unprepared - the climb from Poway to Ramona is called "The Purple Monster" for good reason. Aid stations at 16, 29, 42, 61, 80, 92 miles and the FINISH. The Dos Picos course is a beautiful and quite challenging ride; a true accomplishment. For full description, click on Dos Picos in table above.
