General Information & Rules

We’ve always felt that in some small way we contribute to your health by offering an event that provides a motivation to ride your bike. We now believe it is equally important that we also contribute, in another way, to the health of our planet. We remain committed to providing you with an event that is safe, well-organized and personally rewarding. Now, we are also committed to reducing the environmental impact of our event. We can’t promise to be totally green and without impact, but we have a goal, we’ve made a commitment, and we are determined to do what we can.
We invite you to join us in this goal in those ways that you feel are appropriate. If you can join us in this effort, we will try to have some direct benefits for you. And as athletes you know that, with a commitment and determination, and the support of a team, no goal is out of reach.
Some of our 2010 GREEN efforts:
- Recycle and correctly dispose of all event waste
- Avoid use of plastic bottles, bags and containers
- Arrange for surplus food and clothes to be donated to local organizations for re-use
- Work to make all rider benefits re-usable
- incent riders to participate by arranging benefits; i.e.; preferred parking for share rides; discounts for riders who “ride in-ride out”.
- Register, support and work with local Environmental Organizations
Watch for more information on our e-mail, and social sites about specific actions we are taking and things you can do to help us reach our goals

- The last SAG station on the GREEN course (54 miles), which is also the last SAG on the PURPLE course (92 miles) is Nativity Catholic Church on El Apajo in Rancho Santa Fe. It is just off the course which is on San Dieguito Rd.

FAQ's
- Do I need to train for these rides? - YES. Even though these are rides and not races, they require some degree of fitness and experience on the bike. If you do not ride regularly, be sure to ride at least 3/4 of the distance before you try it. This is also a good opportunity to make sure that your bike is operating correctly
- I am not mechanically inclined - will someone be there to check-out my bike on Friday or Saturday? - No. There will be mechanical aid at the Friday Registration and Saturday Reg/Start and along the route, which will be able to make simple adjustments, pump tires and fix flats. HOWEVER, they do not have the time or tools to make big repairs. It is YOUR responsibility to use a bike that is mechanically fit. If you are not sure, take it to your local bike shop or B&L Bikes (our official shop) the week prior to the ride and have them check it out.
- Is this ride "hilly"? What can I do to prepare? - YES, the rides are considered hilly. Two things will help you: 1) Ride hills the months before if possible; and, 2) Go to your bike shop and have them put on the proper gearing for riding up hills. It might also help to learn some of the technique used by good riders to climb hills.
- I cannot make it to Packet pickup on Friday - can someone pick-up for me? - YES. Go to Registration and Entry Fee section and see how to have a friend pick-up for you.
- If I cannot finish the ride, how will I get back to my car? - Get to a safe place by the side of the ride and flag down an official vehicle (look for signs and flagging). They will take you to a SAG stop and they will notify the van which will transport you back to MiraCosta College. If an official vehicle does not pass by or you REALLY need immediate assistance, there is an emergency phone number on the name tag on your bike number. They will inform the vehicles ot your whereabouts.
- What happens if my pace is very slow - can I continue to ride no matter what? Go to Schedule of Events and see when course cut-offs are. Aid stations close at a certain time, signs are picked up and the vehicles no longer patrol. These are public roads, however, and you may proceed but there will no longer be event support available. Our strong advice is to START EARLY if you have doubts about finishing on time.
- What can I expect at the aid stations? - Water, replacement fluid, ice, fruit, breads and salty snacks, toilets and basic medical and mechanical aid.
