Swim Course - 750 Meters - (820 yards)

Ocean temp in late May is usually between 60 & 66 degrees, tending towards cooler. Surf ranges from 1 to 6 feet, with 1-3 feet being common.

IMPORTANT! Lifeguards will hold pre-swim instructions at 6:40am. We strongly suggest that all swimmers be on the beach for those instructions.

Direction of the swim (clock-wise or counter-clockwise) and direction of the Duathlon Beach Run depends on the current and is set by the lifeguards that morning. The usual course is a point-to-point triangular swim in the Pacific Ocean paralleling Moonlight Beach with an exit onto the walking trail up to the Transition Area.

Bike Course - 20 Kilometers - (12.4 miles)

Two Loop Course - Very well marked with cones, signs and chalk - follow them!
Generally flat course with one gradual ¾ mile hill in middle.

Course is closed to cars and marked both sides with cones. Cars, under police direction, can cross the course at 2nd & “K”, but cyclists still have right of way,

Leave TA at Moonlight Parking lot, go south one block to “D” (be careful - bikes merging) Left on “D” to 2nd, turn right, go south on 2nd to “K”, left on “K” then right onto Southbound PCH. Continue to:

Turn-Around at 3.1 miles on PCH (200 meters north of Seaside Park)
Go north on PCH to “K”, left on “K” to 2nd, right on 2nd. Continue to

Start 2nd Loop at 3rd and “C”. Look for sign and arrow saying "2nd Loop". Circle the block - Be careful! Watch for bikes merging on right from TA!

After completeing 2nd loop, look for sign and arrow for "FINISH". Stay on “C”, dismount and enter TA.

Run Course - 5 Kilometers - (3.1 miles)

Two Loop Course - Very well marked with cones, signs and chalk - Follow them!.
Generally flat course with brief uphill and downhill at start/finish.

Exit Transition on “C” St., go left uphill on “C” St. to 3rd, turn right, then left on “D” St. to 2nd, turn right, proceed to “J” St.,

Turn-Around - turn right at "J" and go up the block to 3rd St., right on 3rd, then right on “I” St. down to “2nd.

Turn left on 2nd, proceed to “D”, left on “D” to 4th and then to 1st Loop Turn-arfouns at 4th and "C"

Start 2nd Loop at 4th and “C”. Watch for sign. Repeat course.

After completing 2nd loop go straight past turn-around at “C” and 3rd and proceed 100 meters to Finish Line in Moonlight Beach Parking Lot.

MINI-SPRINT DISTANCE

Swim Course - 375 Meters - (410 yards)

Same start and finish as Sprint swim, but a small rectangle (closer to shore).

Bike Course - 10 Kilometers - (6.2 miles)

One Loop of above Sprint bike course (no circle around the block at 3rd & “C”).

Run Course - 2.5 Kilometers (1.5 miles)

One Loop of above Sprint run course (no turnaround at 4th & “C”).

DUATHLON

Beach Run Duathlon - 1.5 Kilometers (1640 yards)

Start is at swim start, but runners exit the swim corral and head north Or south, depending on swim direction) on the beach. TURN-AROUND is 750 meters north (south) of the start on the beach. The finish of the beach run is the timing mat just east of the swim exit on the beach. Duathletes merge with swimmers and run up the hill to the transition to get their bikes.

Duathlon bike and run courses are identical to Super-Sprint bike and run.
